Overview
LanGuard is not updating the supported by the GFI LanGuard third-party software (Adobe, Chrome, etc) - after the target machine scan is complete the expected update is not displayed in the list of the available updates.
This article provides information regarding the list of supported 3rd party patches and shares the process for determining why a certain update/patch may not show up for the LanGuard remediation.
Solution
-
Refer to the complete list of the 3rd party Windows Application Updates that are supported by GFI LanGuard to verify whether the third-party software is present there. If the application is not on the list it is NOT supported by the GFI LanGuard.
-
Check the same list for the particular update you are expecting. If the update is listed there, proceed with the troubleshooting steps from the Why LanGuard Is Not Detecting All Missing Patches? article.
-
If the application is on the list and was previously supported, patch/update is present on the vendor website but is missing in our updates list, check when was it issued by the vendor. The new versions of the patch management database are published as frequently as twice a week. If the expected update was issued by the vendor only a day or two ago, wait for the next patch management database update and check the 3rd party Windows Application Updates list again.
-
Check whether the application is installed on a system level on the target machine. LanGuard can only detect missing patches for applications that can be installed on a system-level (installed for all users) and not on a user-level (per user installation).
For the applications installed on the user level, you will have to rely on that application auto-updating or need to uninstall them on each target machine and run a system-level installation. Depending on the vendor support of the silent installation, mass deployment may be possible using LanGuard's custom deployment.
-
For the not so recent updates, it is possible that a Content Update failure occurred. Such failures can occur due to changes on the manufacturer's website, links updated, or many other variables. Gather the target machine scanning results XML and contact GFI LanGuard Support.
