Answer
PROBLEM
The GFI LanGuard Attendant service (lnssatt.exe process) is using unusally large amounts of CPU.
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI LanGuard
- All supported environments
SOLUTION
- Check the Patch Auto-download setting. If it is set to All patches, change it to Only needed patches and see if the CPU usage goes down.
-
Note: All Patches means all patches that GFI LanGuard has a definition for. Each patch from Microsoft and other third party vendors may have up to 5 executables (for different operating system versions).
- If you have more than 200 computers in your database and you are using Microsoft Access as a database backend, switch to a Microsoft SQL Server as the database backend.
-
Note: Upgrade to GFI LanGuard 12 or newer. New versions of GFI LanGuard does not use Access database anymore.
CAUSE
- The GFI LanGuard Attendant service has to work continuously to download All Patches
- The Attendant service has to make many queries to the database for it's operations. The greater the number, the more work that is necessary. Queries to Microsoft Access databases are not processed as fast as they are in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
