Overview
This article provides instructions on how you can change the Program Updates settings to match your environment to ensure that LanGuard has all of the latest vulnerability definitions, program modules, and up-to-date patch management database.
Solution
LanGuard requires regular updates of the vulnerability definitions, the patch management database, and various other modules and usually will automatically update daily at 15:00 (by default) and/or at the application startup. You can change this schedule, configure updates to download, and edit various Program Updates settings from the LanGuard console -> Configuration tab > Program Updates.
Using the checkbox in the Auto-download column you can enable/disable types of updates. Other configuration settings and tasks available are described below.
Configuring Proxy Settings
To manually configure proxy settings to use when downloading the updates from the internet:
- Launch GFI LanGuard and go to Configuration tab > Program Updates.
- In the Common Tasks section, select Edit proxy settings.
- Select Override automatic proxy detection and configure the options:
Option Description Connect directly to the Internet A direct Internet connection is available. Connect via a proxy server Internet access is through a proxy server. Update the Server name and port number using the format Server:Port. Proxy server requires authentication (Optional) Enter the username and password if required by the proxy server. - Click Ok.
Configuring Auto-Update Options
To change Program Updates options:
- Launch GFI LanGuard and go to Configuration tab > Program Updates.
- In the Common Tasks section, select Edit program updates options.
- Select/unselect Check for updates at application startup to enable/disable auto-update checks.
- Select/unselect Enable scheduled updates to configure the schedule and frequency of update checks.
- Specify whether GFI LanGuard downloads updates from the GFI website or an alternative location.
- Click Ok.
Checking for Program Updates Manually
To start the GFI LanGuard program updates manually:
- Launch GFI LanGuard and go to Configuration tab > Program Updates.
- From Common Tasks select Check for updates.
- (optional) Specify the location from where the required update files will be downloaded and/or provide an alternate download path to store all GFI LanGuard updates. Click Next.
- Select the updates and click Next.
- Click Start to start the update process.
