Saving and Loading Scan Results in XML

Overview

GFI LanGuard allows users to save and load scan results in XML files. This article describes how to do that.

Solution

Scan Results are an invaluable source of information for systems administrators. GFI LanGuard scan results are stored in the Scan Results database. In addition, they can also be exported to XML (Extensible Markup Language) as described below.

If asked by the Support, attach the exported XML file in a zip format to the corresponding ticket.

Saving Recent Scan Results to XML File

To perform a new scan and save the results to XML follow these steps:

  1. Launch GFI LanGuard.
  2. Perform a Manual Scan.
  3. Once the scan is complete, click the GFI LanGuard button and go to File > Save Scan Results.
  4. Locate the destination where you want to save the XML and click Save.

  5. Click Save Scan Results to XML file.
  6. Select a path and file name, and click Save.

Loading Scan Results from XML File

  1. Launch GFI LanGuard.
  2. Click the GFI LanGuard button and go to File > Load Scan Results from > XML File.
  3. Locate the scan results to load and click OK.

Note: Loaded scan results are also imported into the main scan results database as if they came from a regular scan. An entry in the Activity Monitor appears as well, although the scan was not actually performed by this LanGuard instance. However, the date and time for the scan should be correct even after the import.
