Disabling User Account Control (UAC) for Alternative Credentials

Overview

The Microsoft Windows feature User Account Control (UAC) can interfere when users use alternative credentials in GFI LanGuard. This article shares the process to prevent this interference by disabling it.

Diagnosis

Best Practices for Setting up Account Permissions with Alternative Credentials recommend using them in a mixed environment. The Microsoft Windows feature User Account Control (UAC) can interfere with this settings and has to be disabled.

Please note that this process is different from entirely disabling the UAC

Solution

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start > Run > Regedit.
  2. Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
  3. Create a new DWORD 32bit: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy and set its value to 1.

Testing

With the setting above Microsoft Windows should not seek additional permissions when using alternative credentials in GFI LanGuard.
