Overview
You are unable to access or update the Central Management Server. When trying to enter the GFI LanGuard Central Management Server console, the following error appears:
'Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server database.'
Solution
The 'Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server database' error indicates that either the credentials used to access the console do not have the necessary privileges or an issue connecting to the SQL database LGCMCScanResults12, which is the default database created for the Central Management Server.
- Please verify that the SQL server is running and accessible by an account that has the sysadmin role by using the SQL Server Management Studio to connect to it or performing a general connectivity test.
- Check the CMS Database state, by default LGCMCScanResults12. If it is in a "Suspended" or "Suspect" State, address this with your database administrator. If you do not have one, consider following the steps described in this article.
- Check the service account running the GFI LanGuard Server Service and ensure it has a sysadmin role assigned within Microsoft SQL.
- If you do not remember the account configured, you may need to uninstall the Central Management Server application alone and install it again. The Central Management Server runs independently of the main LanGuard application and can be uninstalled and reinstalled without affecting it.
Consider using the SA user and SQL authentication instead, as described in point 4 of our Installing the Central Management Server guide.
- Restart the GFI LanGuard Server Service.
Testing
Try to access the Central Management Server. If the issue persists, contact GFI LanGuard Support.
