Unable to Scan or Deploy Missing Patches to Mac OS X Computers

Overview

GFI LanGuard encounters an issue when scanning or deploying/installing patches in a Mac OS X environment.

Prerequisites

Target computer operating system macOS X 10.5 or higher version (versions supported by the OS vendor).

Solution

The scan and deployment operations for the macOS work completely different from Windows operating systems, GFI LanGuard needs to copy and run some scripts to the Mac computers. Additionally, on a default LanGuard installation, the Mac patches definition updates are not enabled, ie they are not downloaded automatically.

  1. Go to LanGuard console -> Configuration -> Program Updates and check the box for Mac patches definitions and then click Check for Updates to download the missing patch definitions.

  2. Go through the Requirements to Scan and Patch mac OS Computers and check each of them.

  3. Once this is done, run the operations that were failing, and verify whether they complete successfully. If the issue persists, it may be due to folder corruption or stuck old updates disrupting LanGuard's automatic updates. Clearing the updates repository folder and initiating a fresh download would fix this, refer to Updating GFI LanGuard Manually for the details.

Testing

Run the operations that were failing and verify that they complete successfully. If the issue persists contact the Support Team.
