Resolving Remediation Jobs Stuck at 'Awaiting Start' Status

Overview

You are unable to remediate updates and deploy patches, and the remediation jobs are stuck with 'Awaiting start' status in the GFI LanGuard console Remediate tab.

Solution

Remediation Jobs stuck at 'Awaiting Start commonly indicate that the account running the GFI LanGuard Attendant Service does not have the necessary rights on the target machines.

  1. On the LanGuard server, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and verify that the GFI LanGuard XX Attendant Service is running and the user account running it.
  2. On the Windows target machine(s), verify that the user account above has Administrator rights.
  3. On the Windows target machine(s), verify that the user account above has Log on as a service right:

    1. Navigate to Start > Run and type secpol.msc and press Enter.
    2. Expand Local Policies.
    3. Choose the User Rights Assignment.
    4. Scroll down till you see Log on as a service.
    5. Right-click it and go to Properties.
    6. Click Add User or Group and add that account there.
    7. Click Apply and OK and close out of the Local Security Policy.
    8. Apply the changes.
    9. Navigate to Start > Run > type GPupdate /force and press Enter.
  4. Ensure the account being used for the LanGuard backend database has a sysadmin role assigned within Microsoft SQL.
  5. Check the available space for the LanGuard backend database. If it is exhausted or is close to the limit, address this. Refer to Maintaining the SQL Database Used by LanGuard for more information.

Testing

Restart the GFI LanGuard Attendant Service, wait for some time, and verify remediation job status. If the issue persists:
