Why is the Agent not working, and the diagnostic result is that it was stopped / disabled?

Overview

The agent is installed on the target machine, but no results have been sent for a long time. The result of the agent diagnostic was that the GFI LanGuard Attendant Service is stopped/disabled.

Solution

When the agent diagnostic states that the GFI LanGuard Attendant service on the target computer is stopped or disabled, it means that the agent is not working. This is not something that can be triggered from the LanGuard console; it is possible that the agent installation became corrupted or that anti-virus or other scanning programs prevent the service from running. You will need to check on the target machine to determine which process is stopping the Attendant service.

On the target machine:

  1. Ensure Real-time Protection Engines Exclusions are correctly set up.
  2. Restart the GFI LanGuard Attendant and ensure that it is set to automatically start and monitor if it stays running.
  3. If it stops again, check the Windows event logs to determine what is stopping the GFI LanGuard Attendant service and address this.
  4. If the issue persists, it may be necessary to uninstall the agent from the console, wait for it to uninstall, and redeploy it again from the console.

Testing

Once the service stays running, perform an agent scan from the LanGuard console by right-clicking on the target machine in the network tree and selecting Scan > Refresh information now.

If the issue persists, contact GFI LanGuard Support.
