Overview
This article guides you on how to customize predefined messages shown to a user when LanGuard is performing remediation operations and set the message language according to the scan target's computer language.
Solution
By default, whenever GFI LanGuard has to perform any remediation action on a client machine (like installing a new patch) the user would be warned of this activity by the message "Warning!! GFI LanGuard is now performing administrative tasks....". This message language and text can be changed from the LanGuard console:
- Launch GFI LanGuard.
- Go to Remediate > Remediation Center.
- Select a remediation action, such as Deploy Software Updates.
- Click Remediate.
- Click Advanced options.
- From the Remediation Options dialog, go to Before Deployment > Messages.
- Customize any of the following options.
Option Description Language Select the message language. When not waiting for user approval Use or customize the pre-defined message that launches on the end user’s computer when GFI LanGuard is not waiting for approval. When waiting for user approval Use or customize the pre-defined message that launches on the end user’s computer when GFI LanGuard is waiting for approval.
- Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
Auto-Remediation Messages Configuration File
The messages for all the languages are stored in the spwarningmessages.xml configuration file. It can be used for direct message editing and for backup/migration purposes to retain your custom auto-remediation messages. The file location:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GFI\LANguard 12\PatchManagement\
on Windows 2003/XP machines\ProgramData\GFI\LANguard 12\PatchManagement\
on modern Windows OS
In this file, there is one section for each language. To change the message, edit the text in the following nodes of the respective language section:
<WarnMsg_CustomUpdates_Wait> and <WarnMsg_CustomUpdates_DoNotWait>
Before any alteration, please always make a backup of the file first.
